China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released their new catalogue for products requiring China RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances). China RoHS sets mandatory restrictions on hazardous substances for lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE). This catalogue will go into effect March 12, 2019.
The Catalogue includes the following product categories:
- refrigerators
- air conditioners
- washing machines
- electric water heaters
- printers
- photocopiers
- fax machines
- televisions
- monitors (such as computer monitors and CCTVs)
- microcomputers (such as personal computers, laptops, tablets and PDAs)
- mobile communication devices
- telephones
This catalogue will advise of restrictions and certifications for products listed. MIIT have also advised products that fall in the electronic and electrical categories require RoHS-mandated logos. Products that exceed specified values of a particular hazardous substance are banned. This also affects products presently in the China market.
